Meraki Fade is an activist and passionate supporter of environmental conservation, volunteering for Sea Shepherd Global and Assisting Your Life to Achieve (AYLA) in Western Australia.
As part of her commitment to sea conservation she recently volunteered for environmental NGO eXXpedition, joining an all female crew for a twenty four day sailing voyage crossing the South Pacific to research and document the degree to which modern society contributes to ocean pollution.
In particular, eXXpedition set out to examine the environmental impact micro plastics have on the oceans, marine life, human health and other ocean ecosystems and more generally the impact on countries and islands in the region, including indigenous societies.
As news of Covid 19 reached the team they liaised with different authorities from the middle of the South Pacific to safeguard 14 different nationalities on board and re navigated their route as borders rapidly closed due to the global pandemic.
Meraki Fade’s sailing Vlog captures the intense emotions of being at sea in the midst of an emerging world health crisis, the uncertainty of sailing towards closing borders and the necessity of raising awareness of the plastic pollution emergency facing even the world's most remote locations.
